Balandra Software is a spanish company, born from the experience of its founder, Sylvia Díaz-Montenegro, in customer-facing processes when she was CIO launching first Direct Line and then ING Direct in Spain.

The customer on-boarding in financial services companies is a clear example of a High Variety process, as it is also in other industries such as the Communications services or Utilities.

Our technology is (yet) unique in the world: we are pioneers using artifact-centric modelling to represent the behavior or processes that need to constantly adapt to the case situation, decoupling it from the internal tasks.

We’ve been working a while around artifact-centric, including a collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya around the design methodology BALSA, to create a design method of complex system behaviors, formalizing them to make them readable and repeatable.

Balandra is listed as one out of 5 worldwide Cool Vendors de Gartner in the BPM category.

Its case with Verti, a direct insurer, has been awarded with the BPM Excellence Award de Gartner. It has several mentions in Gartner analysts’ documents.

Balandra is an R&D project. Its first version was financed by the Spanish Government CDTI between 2010 and 2012. It has mantained a massive R&D investment, year on year, to develop the orchestration platform and its design tools.
In 2018, Avanza financed the model-based front-end.

Why Cool?

Balandra es the first product to use the Artifact-centric paradigm.

Gartner’s Cool Vendor reports identify technology vendors that bring a new approach to the market, offering unique and innovative products and services that have real market impact. In the BPM report, Balandra Software is one of the 5 cool vendors selected globally, from whom Gartner’s analysts say:

“These Cool Vendors link hybrid cloud services, take a “fast IT” approach to strategy-to-execution and scale the automation of nonroutine work.”

Balandra Software is cool because it allows the definition of a comprehensive digital behavior, connecting from the back-offices up to the last front-end.

Who Should Care?

Digital business-owners, wanting to differentiate their brand through an exceptional customer experience.

According to the report, business transformation leaders, business outcome owners and solution architects should consider:

“BPM platforms that “go beyond” process flow in order to handle volatile events and cases, and take a data-driven and rule-based approach to support dynamic case management and business moments.”

According to our founder: “this recognition is a unique honor. It validates our commitment to put the brand behaviour in the hands of the business areas so they can engage more effectively with their customers.” With no doubt, ‘Artifact-centric’ technologies are the best way to manage a personalized omnichannel customer experience. At the end of the day, the customers’ lifecycle is the highest variety process a company manages.
